April Ross
April Ross has won more than one Olympic medal. She is one of the few female beach volleyball players to be able to do so. Ross is scheduled to compete in Tokyo for her third Olympic medal, along with Alix Klineman. She is a one time Olympian. Ross wants to achieve more than her initial Olympic medal. As she turns 39, it could be her final chance to take home the Olympic gold medal. But she's convinced that top honors are firmly in reach. If we do our best or even if we play well I feel like we can get that gold medal Ross said via NBC Boston. In addition, I'm hoping to have some chances. Ross was born the 22, 1982, in Costa Mesa California. She lived with her family in Costa Mesa. While at Newport Harbor High School, she played in a variety of sports. She was a basketball player and also ran tracks in addition to her indoor volleyball achievements during her prep time. When she played in the final sport, she clearly stood out. In her high school volleyball season in her college profile, she played the roles of an outside blocker, middle blocker settingter, and hitter. The results of her efforts were acknowledged by her being named 1999 Gatorade's Circle of Champions National Player of the Year. She also captured the 2000 Orange County Athlete of the Year trophy for volleyball. Though Ross and Klineman are in the spotlight since 2017, the former had already been a major athlete on the beach prior to their team. In fact, she's played a significant role in the world of beach volleyball over the years. In fact, Ross won several tournaments, including one with a famous volleyball legend. They teamed up with Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, in addition to serving as Kessy's Klineman and coach. Kessy as well as Ross proved to be extremely successful on the world stage, claiming a 2009 world title together. They also won the Silver Medal during the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. The legendary Misty Maytreanor team as well as Kerri Jennings were the winners of gold. Ross was Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's departure. They won the bronze medal at the beach volleyball competition in the Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross was a college player with the Trojans of USC prior to making the jump to professional. The Trojans were at high school and even years prior to hitting the beach as a professional. The time she spent through the institution was a memorable one. In 2000, as a freshman she earned Pac-10 as well as NCAA All-American Freshman of Year honors and was an All-American. Her performance also assisted in helping the Trojans to make it to the Final Four. During her sophomore season, she was devastated by a personal loss, yet she managed to repeat as an All-American. Through her final two years in the program she led the Trojans towards the top of the hill, capturing three consecutive championships at the national level. As an individual, she cemented her place as a legend when she won the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. The award was presented to the most outstanding female player from the United States. Ross majored in international relations at USC. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, didn't get the opportunity to see her daughter grow into an international beach volleyball star. Ross lost the breast cancer that she battled in 2001. Ross was then a sophomore. Yet, she is able to cherish her missing parent with love and dear. And Margie continues to be an energy for her on the beach and in life.
